Episode 26: Shortsightedness and New University Fanfare

A new University study has helped put an end to the myth that people
who wear glasses are 'geeky' or introverted. Plus, the University now
has a new fanfare. Visions talks to the composer and goes behind the
scenes of its first performance.

Shortsightedness and Personality study:
People who are
shortsighted and wear glasses can no longer be regarded as introverted
or geeky. The latest results are from one of the world biggest studies
investigating shortsightedness, conducted by researchers from the
University of Melbourne’s Centre of Eye Research Australia and School
of Behavioural Sciences. This latest information is the final part of a
longitudinal study to investigate what determines the condition,
including genetics and environmental factors.

New University Fanfare:
Brenton
Broadstock, the composer and former head of composition in the Faculty
of Music, has created a new anthem for the University, for which he
gave 26 years of service.
