A bumper final episode of Visions for 2008 goes behind the scenes of the Homeless World Cup, checks out a program to get female students interested in electronics, and talks to experts using virtual reality to model climate change.
Virtual Climate Change
A new project known as the Spatial Information Exploration and Visualisation Environment (SIEVE) aims to communicate complicated information on climate change from a real world landscape into a 3D virtual environment.
Developed by the University of Melbourne and the Cooperative Research Centre of Spatial Information, SIEVE is fully functional in limited areas within Victoria. The first stage of the program represents rural environments for use in agriculture.

Robogals
Getting girls into electronics is the motivation for a new student run program at the University of Melbourne. Robogals is a Lego robot building program and competition aimed at girls in grades five to seven. It is the brain child of a group of female students from the Melbourne School of Engineering, with the goal of attracting more females into the field.

Homeless Heroes
At the start of December Melbourne played host to the 6th Homeless World Cup, an international soccer competition featuring teams of people who are homeless and excluded. The University of Melbourne played its part in the running of the competition, providing training facilities and accomodation, as well as many student volunteers.
