Why is it easier to follow directions when they are explained through a series of landmarks instead of street names? Dr Matt Duckham and Dr Stephan Winter from the Department of Geomatics in Melbourne University’s School of Engineering were approached 12 months ago by http://www.whereis.com to answer these questions. Their research is now implemented into what they believe is the world’s first online landmark selection system based on cognitive principles.
